Album of the Year
This is the first album of mine where I got to work with a female producer - Rachael Moore (Allison Krauss, Robert Plant, T-Bone Burnett, Bob Dylan) and record with the band all playing together in one room! It was a process that challenged my overthinking brain and breathed so much life into the songs.
They’re all different kinds of sighs - sorrow, frustration, relief, love. They are those letters you write to get it all out and burn them but I turned them into songs. Many came out of loss and pain but I opened the album with the letter to myself “Dear Me” because ultimately, I was finding the love and empowerment within me for myself and I hope that that resonates in the people who hear “Le Sigh”.
The title came from a desire to and delight in not taking things too seriously - feeling all the feelings but trying not to wallow - bringing a little light and humor and Pepé Le Pew vibes into the drama. Also, I love Art Nouveau and what a perfect way to tie in that style! (I submitted the artwork to the Album Cover & Packaging categories as well)
